I admit that it is not easy to open up all the layers to even close friends. In a forum like this in anonymity among people that can relate I can feel more comfortable. I do wish I had people in my life that could fill that role. I believe that is another reason why I would like a woman in my life that I could share with

This is normal for a man, you aren’t socialized to form those deep emotionally intimate friendships with each other as we are, and worse yet they are sort of questioned for ulterior motives in men when for women it is expected and encouraged. I have heard a psychologist mention this is why so many widowers move on at lightning speed as compared to widows. It is not they they don’t miss and still grieve their wives, but they literally lost their entire coping mechanism when their wife died. It shouldn’t be this way and doesn’t have to be so. Maybe dip a toe in the water with the one you trust the most. Or try a minister or someone first, and go from there. This is important for your overall well-being not just finding a woman.

I suggest you stop counseling for a while and see how it goes, if it works out and you get used to it then fine, otherwise you can always look for another counselor if need be.
