Dragn, that is so cool and a little creepy.

Yes it is. When she's just sitting there you don't see just how large her fangs are.

Chili, you robbed me!

I felt the same. If I can't be glitter queen then I wanted to kill the thread Killer thread lol

Weird question, but do tarantas have to regrow their hair? How would they do that if their outer shell is solid?

Those fangs are awesome in a creepy cool Shelob kinda way.

I clipped my dogs nails today. Gross and definitely not one bit of cool kind of gross like your tarantula. Good news though, I can clip my dogs nails without her bleeding! The first time I tried it... yeah... didnt work too well.

What are people doing about cat claws these days? BH is allergic, so I havent had one since I moved out of my parents house. I heard some awful things about surgical declawing. Ew.

I believe everything forms underneath. When they molt they come out soft but fuzzy.

I guess if you googled tarantula molting you could find a video of it.

I habe seen the process only a few times. Usually you go to bed and wake up with a fresh molt/skin.

I use nail clippers on thr cat. Just take off the tips. I heard many vets aren't declaring anymore. Good cause it's gross.

I take both of my dogs to the groomer to get nails buffed down. My tiny long-hair Chihuahua doesn't move or say a word, she just looks at me accusingly for taking her there. laugh Now my Chi-weenie will scream like a GIRL, he's so LOUD! Finally the groomer told me to move so he couldn't see me and he'd quit screaming. I did and he stopped. She said he was screaming for my benefit. laugh My dogs are both small so I wouldn't even attempt to trim their nails, I'd probably hurt them. There is a huge black lab that goes to my dog groomer and his name is ETHAN. You go in there and there are like FIVE groomers working with him, trying to trim his nails! They are all saying his name over and over, "Ethan! It's okay!" and he's dancing around going in circles while all the groomers try to hold him still on the table. It's quite a show!

It's coming up on hoof trimming time...two of MY horses aren't an issue. Their hooves are always great. The Mustang on the other hand. Omg. Pigs and goats too. There's a device I saw someone build for their pigs that flips them upside-down. Need to get to work on that lol

OK, no matter how jittery he is getting his nails trimmed, I have to say that I crave the name "Ethan" for a dog. If I was ever going to have another dog, that’s the one I would use. 😊. Except, of course, I don’t do "boy" dogs. Enough penises in my house with my husband and my three boys growing up. 🙄

Also, a comment about the "right to die" discussion. For me personally, I could never do anything to end my life. I just have a problem with it for myself. But in thinking about my husband, I have always thought how it would be a good thing to have that in my state, of course it will never happen.

Because even though I have told him I will do whatever he wants me to do regarding no more doctors, no more medication, etc., I would never do any thing actively to end his life. But if we had the "right to die" in our state, then he would have the ability to make that decision and not need to count on me imposing my opinions/beliefs on him

Oh, and in my "purse" (belly bag I snap around my waist (or where a waist should be), I have a little snap coin purse, my keys, and I’d cards. Oh, and proof of my COVID shots. And that’s it.

I want another dog.

The St. Bernard crossed the rainbow bridge just before Christmas then the chihuahua died shortly after.

Its hard NOT having a dog in the house.

Goats are cute and all but dont make up for a dog.

Wh said no more dogs. He isnt over the loss of the St. Bernard.

I think its time for another dog.

Do it Drgn. After your WH gets the hell out for an extended time.

Have you looked at any re-homing shelters?

I'm concerned that adding another animal to train and feed and clean up after may be a bit taxing for you guys... Or a good distraction. Either way, I have a dog for the first time in my adult life and I would not go back for the world. I think I'm realizing I'm one of those people who always needs to have a dog to share my life with.

Anyway, you've got enough messes that aren't yours to clean up... hah!

Think on it, but it may be a good idea. Dogs are so pure with their love.

Another animal isn't what we need right now, you're correct.

All of our past dogs have come from shelters or from people getting rid of them. Geez most of our animals came from similar situations. I love how people get that cute or small whatever then it gets big and not cute and iys get rid of it time. I'm being sarcastic. I don't love thst people do that.

Anyways I have liked having a BIG dog because we are so isolated. Motion sensor alarms, lights cameras only go so far. A big dog running at ya is a hell of a lot more of a deterrent to breaking in. Goats work good too. When I have them free ranging lol. But they go to bed at night so... laugh

Dragon…

I get it that you have enough on your plate, and that even only one more living thing could overtax you.

But I also get how much you love all living things, and I TOTALLY get it the joy of having dogs.

And I can’t help but think that going out right this second and getting another dog would be a nice signal to your WH.

He says he’s not ready, but you would like to have another one. So I say you get one if the spirit moves you. The very worst, and the very best as well by the way, would be that he can see that he no longer calls the shots.

Of course, I have four dogs sitting in my lap in my recliner as I write this to you, so my opinion is not totally objective!

It's hard because we have alwsys had a dog. 14 years at least. So this sucks.

If I was 100% confident that there was no risk of leaving here I would get a herd protection dog from one of my farmer friends. She always has puppies. Kills two birds with one stone so to speak.

Nice large dog to keep everyone and everything safe and dog drools and snuggles.

The bigger the dog, the bigger the snuggle! Also the bigger the poops... We're paying the kids 0.25$ a poop to collect them off the lawn this year.

I'm clumsy, so I need a dog that's at least up to my knee- otherwise I'll be stepping on them! My standard poodle is 40lbs of fluffy love and she's a couple inches higher than my knee. Don't know what I would do without my puppy doggy! blush

Either way, I have to wonder if dogs are a bit like kids (a small bit- not one of those people who think my dog is a child). Like, you may feel overwhelmed at the thought of having more, but once you do, you don't know what you did with your life before them.

Either way, do what's good for you guys!

BH is looking at getting a German Short Haired Pointer off the pheasant preserve he shoots at. He's brought in a lot of business over the years, so the gal that runs it is only asking for vet fees. He gets 4th pick. My poodle was supposed to be his hunting buddy, but she has a bum hip and is timid and a bit too... well, kinda dumb when it comes to tracking. She's a companion, not a hunter. Anyway, I think we're going to do it. The more the merrier.

Whatsright, Big Ethan is what the groomers call him. They all clear their appointment books when Big Ethan is coming in for a nail trim. He's a large, beautiful, shiny black Lab (I love Labs!) and the sweetest doggie - when they aren't giving him a nail trim. I told my groomer SOMEONE had hurt him, in the past while trimming his nails - or he wouldn't be making such a fuss.

Poor baby!

Mine nearly yanked my arm off today walking her- she spotted deer in the woods in our local park. Since we let her "play tag" with the deer around our house, she's used to chasing.

Luckily for the deer she has a bum back hip, so she's not nearly as fast as them. Otherwise, I'd keep her inside. It's nice though- the deer are hesitant to eat our perennials and shrubbery.

Gives them all good exercise though! laugh

Spring has arrived. I wish someone would inform Mother Nature. We have three days of scheduled cold rain in the forecast. Then it's supposed to warm up. I am seeing sprigs of green grass trying to make their presence known. Watching for buds on the trees but nothing yet which is late for this time of year. I used to open my pool by April 1 but that's a thing of the past.

In January my daughter lost her best friend, her doggie of 14 years. She has really been grieving. She has always had a dog as we are a doggie family. This doggie went everywhere with her, even to school. She had congestive heart failure and was on meds since October. So it's been two months since her passing. Daughter has been looking at rescues and thinking she definitely needs another best friend.

This past week, one of her former high school teachers contacted her as she'd seen her posts about losing her doggie and felt so bad for her. Former teacher raises English bulldogs. They are quite pricy. Daughter was thinking of a rescue and NOT a puppy. But she went to visit the former teacher to see the babies. She came away with the runt of the litter and he is one of the cutest little guys I've ever seen. The teacher GAVE him to my daughter! What a gift. Teacher also told my daughter if it didn't work out, she's more than welcome to return the puppy to him. So all day yesterday we played with this puppy! He's a cuddler which my daughter really needs right now. Puppy was going to school with her today, after spring break - so we'll see how that goes. Since he's English, his name is Archie - like Prince Harry's little boy. smile He is registered and has some fancy last name but needed a first name. I hope it works out.
