Regarding gifts in charitable donation requests, depending upon the charity, including a small gift can increase response rates by 5% or more. So, the cost associated with including a gift can result in a better return on investment for the fundraising campaign. If you're not part of the 5% that is swayed by its inclusion, don't feel guilty about keeping it. The charity ran the numbers, and wouldn't include them unless they knew they were going to pay for themselves.

ETA: If you think it's hard to find a good cobbler nowadays, just try getting your grandfather clock repaired!

Well, things that have kept me awake at night include:

Why do we drive on a parkway and park in a driveway?

Seriously could they make the english language anymore messed up? Adding silent letters, having 3 there's, 3 twos, same word different meanings depending on how its used. And phonetics...total bull crap. Here SOUND OUT THE WORD...oh wait let's stick in letters that don't have any sound or have the sound of another letter just to mess with ya.
(Ph=f for example).

I had another thing but I got distracted and it's flown the coup of my brain. Figures.

I blame the french on the silent letters. You left out the letters like G (/j/ /k/) and C (/k/ /s/ ) that get pronounced differently depending on which words they are in.

I've never watched it because that type of animation gives me the creeps.

Just like Coraline (sp?). Hate that animation. Gives me nightmares.

Why does Mother Nature insist on giving us all four damn seasons in a single day?

Morning it's damn freezing. Send the kids to school in sweaters and winter jackets.

By lunch it's like should I turn in the AC or melt into a pile of sweaty goo...

Dinner time, it's like awe Autum is so wonderful and by 8pm I've got to crank the heat cause it's frosty.

PICK one... ONE!

Ohio has 12 seasons Winter, Fool's Spring, Second Winter, Spring of Deception, Third Winter, The pollening, Actual Spring, Summer, Hade's Front Porch, False Fall, Second Summer, Actual Fall. The first weekend in October we had temps under 0c. Now we;ve been running at 20 for the last couple of weeks. Must be actual fall. Power went out in the early am a few days back. After it came back on didn't notice the furnace wasn't working till the next night as the furnace/air isn't needed much in this weather. Had to replace the thermostat as it was deader than a doornail.

Solarchick

I too have a grandfather clock that needs repair. I did find a clock repair shop once, but they did not do house-calls. We got ours to work for a little while by putting shims under one side, but it looked a little silly.

Another thing I came across the other day is why do they use both O and zero - 0. in the UK post codes and on mixed streams of ID letters and numbers.
